Narrative Writing Comes to Life

Ms. MacInnes' students were reading their narrative writing when I stopped by her English 9 class today. I was really impressed with the quality of writing that was presented. The narrative writing came to life as the students shared their stories. Bravo!!!

April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge

Community volunteers and PHSS students worked hard today trying to get their wooden boats to a reasonable level, as the April 28th Race date is fast approaching. The students are really enjoying the experience. Thank you to the volunteers who have made this possible for our students. Thanks also to to Russ Jones, new owner of RONA Building Supplies for providing all of the material for our students gratis!!! You can find additional pictures on the Principal's Flickr Photostream.

Grad Bursary Presentations

Our grads are reminded of the upcoming presentations to the PHSS Bursary Donors. This annual event gives the donors an opportunity to meet with all of the grads who will be pursuing post-secondary and decide if their bursary would be a match for the particular grads.

Our grade 12 students have been busy working on their Grad Transitions, with Mrs. Dimond, in preparation for this evening.

Archery & Aprons

Mr. Mocellin introduced an archery unit in PE today. It took the students a while to get the hang of it, but they did have some success. A couple students stopped by the office later to show me their sewing skills-- very nice aprons. I hope that you can appreciate the quality work that they produced--Bravo!

Steam Power

Mr. Walls has been discussing the Industrial Revolution with his Socials 9 class and today he had a demonstration of one of the most significant inventions the steam engine. The demo provided an excellent opportunity for him to share the importance of this technological innovation as part of the Industrial Revolution. Great job Mr. Walls!!

Assembly Today

Paramedic, Ted Shaw, was our guest speaker at today's assembly, which was sponsored by ICBC. Ted's stories, most of which stemmed from his experiences arriving at accident scenes and the aftermath, were thought provoking and insightful. He provided students with a lot of good advice and shared some of the realities that he faces in his job daily. I hope that students share some of these stories with their parents and friends, as the message is powerful.

Staff Caricatures

One of our grade 8 students used his talents to develop caricatures of the PHSS staff. It was so well done I thought that it would be worth sharing. FYI we had our first staff meeting of the year and it went well. I have a PAC Meeting later this evening as well. I look forward to seeing many of you this evening. Until later. Mr. H
