Heart Dissections in Science

Mr. Lewis had his students doing a dissection of a heart yesterday. The students really enjoyed the activity, which students felt helped their understanding of how the heart works. Good job Mr. Lewis!

Post Spring Break

Greetings: It was nice that some of us could get away and relax over the Spring Break, but it is now time to get back to work. We only have 2 weeks before term 3 ends, going into our Easter weekend. I will continue to challenge our students to perform at a high level as we go into the home stretch of the academic year. It is important that parents continue to have regular contact with teachers if there are any academic concerns. Mrs. Dimond will also be able to provide students and parents of our grads, information about scholarships that will be available for those considering any post-secondary studies. There will be a meeting for our grads with donors on the evening of April 26th. This will be an excellent opportunity for our students to meet and discuss their future plans with our scholarship/bursary donors. I also wanted to mention that we will be working with community volunteers in some boat building for the April Tools Boat Race. Students participating will be expected to put in time after school to build boats for this fun community event. If any parents are interested in volunteering please let me know. Lastly, I want to remind parents that we have our March PAC Meeting, this Wednesday the 28th at 7:00 pm. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Until later. Mr. H

Talent at PHSS

Mr. Walls showed me one of his students projects-- pretty awesome! The students are offered a variety of ways to display their creativity at PHSS and Wood Shop is one of those avenues. Students interested in boat building, in preparation of April 28th's April Tools Boat Race, will get a chance to build boats again here-- the community volunteers will be working with our students starting Monday, March 26th after school. I will be sponsoring our students this year, as Mr. Walls has had to bow out due to the curent job action. All of our students are welcome-- they just need to have a positive attitude, be willing to work collaboratively with fellow students and to come to each boat building session in preparation of the big event April 28th. Have a good evening. Tomorrow is a regular day with Spring Break commencing at the end the day tomorrow. Mr.H

Shake and Bake: Earthquake Drill Today

We did an earthquake drill today, in consultation with the entire School District and other agencies on the Sunshine Coast, which gave us an opportunity to review our communication systems within the school district. We determined that we must ensure that we include parent volunteers in our planning, as we had our hot lunch parent volunteers here today. Hopefully the information gained from today's exercise will allow us to forge ahead with a clearer picture of the things we must have in place in case we are faced with an emergency, like an earthquake, in the future. I also want to remind parents that we will have another day of parent/teacher interviews tomorrow from 1:45- 3:00 pm. There will be an early dismissal and all buses will be running early in the afternoon. Friday will be a regular day, prior to the week off for Spring Break. Have a good evening. Mr. H

Spring is Fast Approaching

Stormy weather, power outages and spring flowers-- what are things that have been seen at PHSS the past 24 hours? Aside from that we have Parent/Teacher Interviews tomorrow and Thursday afternoon. This be be an excellent opportunity to check in with your child's teachers to see how they are progressing. Early dismissal and interviews occur at 1:45 p.m. If you need to make an appointment to meet with a particular teacher please call Margaret to organize this. Thanks and enjoy the nice afternoon. Mr. H

Indoor Soccer Action at PHSS

It was back to the regular routine yesterday. It was nice to see the students back in class and enjoying our intramural program. For your information teachers are currently just working from bell to bell, so the best way to communicate with your child's teacher may be e-mail. I would also encourage you to check the staff blogs for updated information regarding assignments. Have a good day. Mr. H

Some of our grads decided to use some cardboard boxes to utilize their creativity and make a magic school bus out of some extra cardboard boxes. They had some fun, as you can see.

Teacher Strike Seems to be Ramping Up

According to the information that I am receiving the BCTF President announced that the teachers will not attend work next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The SD46 response can be seen by going to the SD 46 web page. Once I have updated information I will do an auto-dial out to everyone. Please be patient with us as we work through these issues. Mr. H
