New Teachers at Pender Secondary School

Our two new teachers were in today doing some organizational work for the upcoming school year. I have posted pictures of them below.

First I would like to introduce Ms. Paige Mullins. She is in her first year of teaching after graduating from UBCO in Kelowna. She will be teaching Math and Sciences. Ms. Mullins comes to us from Penticton.

Secondly, I would like to introduce Ms. Tella Sametz. She will be teaching our Art and Media Arts Program, along with coordinating our Yearbook. Ms. Sametz taught at Cedar Grove last year and has had extensive teaching experience in Ontario.

I welcome them to PHSS and pleased to have them on our staff!

Until later.

Busy Week

It has already been busy to start the week. I was at the Sechelt Learning Centre yesterday taking a First Aid course. Today has been an office day and it has been busy.

Ms. Dimond and I had a meeting with our Rotary Exchange student, from Taiwan, this morning-- she (Po-Ya) comes from a city of 3 million and a high school with 1,200 students. It will be quite a change for her.

I continue to work with Margaret Hartley, our extremely capable Office Assistant, getting organized for the year.

As you may be aware, we have new flooring throughout the school. To keep the place looking good, we are going to have students hang their skateboards on racks outside the front door. Additional lockers will be available if students want to lock up their boards.

We are alleviating the issues regarding the damage to locker doors by having locks on all lockers. The custodians and our site maintenance worker feel that this will allow us to keep the building looking good and will minimize safety issues from broken locker doors.

I am off to another meeting in the Counselor's Office.

Until Later.

Principals' Retreat

All of the SD 46 principals are meeting with our new Superintendent, Patrick Bocking, at the Painted Boat today and tomorrow. It is a beautiful setting for our retreat. I will include some pictures later.

The New School Year is Almost Upon Us

Greetings:

My name is Mark Heidebrecht and I am gearing up for the 2011-2012 academic year as the new Principal of PHSS. I look forward to working closely with our staff, students, parents and community members this coming year and I am confident that we will have a great year.

I will try to utilize my blog as a tool to provide ongoing communication. We also have an auto-dial system in place, which I will utilize as well. I would like to meet as many parents as possible, so we will have a Family Barbeque on Wednesday, September 14th from 6-7:00 pm. A PAC Meeting following the barbeque.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.
