Art Clay Pojects

Mr. Shaw has inspired our students to work with clay this semester.  The students seem to really enjoy this medium. I look forward to seeing the snake once it has been fired in the kiln.  FYI, you can seen the pictures in a larger format by clicking on the picture.  Enjoy!

Grad Presentations to Bursary Donors

Our 2013 Grads did a  great job with their presentations to our Bursary Donors.  Thank you to our donors for attending this event.

Rent a Grad/Kitchen Cabinets/Bursary Donors

There has been a lot of activity at PHSS this week.  The Rent-a-Grad was a success-- in the top photo 2013 Grad Ryleigh L. can be seen with Solveigh, one of the students who rented her services.

In the second photo you can see that the Mezzanine has been converted into a construction site.  The SD 46 Maintenance crew has been renovating the kitchen, which is coming along great! I will post some photos when they have finished the job.

Lastly, I want to welcome our Bursary Donors for this evening's student presentations.  Our 2013 grads will have an opportunity to share their stories regarding their goals and aspirations. They will also let the donors know what post-secondary options they are pursuing.  Tonight's event is at 6:30 pm.

Have a great afternoon and evening.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Rent a Grad and April Tools Boats

The grad above has been rented by another student......the outfit is part of the deal!  I did notice another grad bringing tea to her classroom-- Ms. Mullins indicated that they will be having a tea party later in class.

As you can see we will have 5 entries in the student race as part of April Tools.  The student race will be at 2:00 pm on this Saturday, April 27th.

Girls' Soccer Team on the Road.......and More

It was relatively quiet at PHSS today, since the junior girls' soccer team was away at a tournament in Vancouver.  I haven't heard how they did but I am sure that it went well for them.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our rugby trip to Kamloops.  We were looking forward to participating in Rugbyfest 2013, but we didn't have enough players to field a team.  We have a dedicated group but we are shy a few bodies.  We will work hard to make sure we have some games in the coming weeks.

We will have track practice starting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (around 7:30 am) and Friday at lunch (high jump and long jump).  We want to provide some training for some upcoming HS meets in Vancouver, as well as the elementary meets for our grade 7 students.

Hopefully we'll get some more sunshine in the next few days.......I think we deserve it!

By the way, thanks to Superintendent of SD 46 Patrick Bocking for coming to our PAC Meeting last night.  We had a good meeting and a lot of ground was covered.  The  Principal's Report can be viewed by going to the PAC section of the website.  I also want to pass on my thanks to the parents who attended the meeting as well.

Spirit Assembly

As part of today's Spirit Assembly the Grads had a "Grad Auction."  Mr. Stoddart did a great job as auctioneer-- the Grads made close to $300 in the auction.

There were other activities that involved the Rugby Team competing against the Girls' Soccer Team, as well as a few other activities that were in good.

Thanks to Mr. Mocellin and the Leadership class for organizing this event! Bravo!!

Senior Rugby vs Chatelech

Our young squad played a tough Chatelech Secondary to start their season.  The team played with a lot of spirit and gave up more tries than they got.  Congratulations on a great effort.  Thanks to Coach Dave MacKay for lining the field this afternoon!

As you can see from the picture our next PAC Meeting is this Wednesday at 7:00 pm.  I look forward to seeing many of you there.

By the way our Rugby team will play a 7s game against Chatelech tomorrow at 4:00 pm.  Fans are welcome!

Wrestling in PE

Mr. Mocellin's  PE class was wrestling when I stopped by the gym this afternoon.  I was really impressed with the quality of the matches I watched.

HACE 7 & Senior Rugby

As part of Health & Career Education 7,  I had the boys working on an activity which was part of the  competition theme. They also did some role-playing during the second block with a bullying theme.

Our Rugby team had great weather for practice today.  Coaches Michael Cyr and Dave MacKay put them through the paces in preparation for some upcoming matches.  On Tuesday Chatelech will be playing at PHSS and then on Thursday our team heads to Kamloops for Rugbyfest.   We are a fairly young and inexperienced team, but it will be a good building year for the Rugby Program.

Pro-D Day and Service Recognition

The former part of the day was a Pro-D Day.  Most of the PHSS staff worked on a variety of activities including Restitution and areas of improvement for the school.  We also did a few ice-breaker activities.  The first photo is part of a trust activity that we did after lunch.

Later in the day I attended an SD 46 Service Recognition Celebration where SD 46 employees were recognized for their years of service to our school district.  The Francis Flemming Award was also presented to Donna Joe for her outstanding long-term contribution to the students of the Sunshine Coast.  She was instrumental in developing the she shashishalhem Dictionary and she has worked in education on the Sunshine Coast for over 25 years.

Have a Nice Weekend

Take some time to enjoy our beautiful surroundings this weekend.  We certainly live in a beautiful part of the world!

Have a great weekend.  Remember that Monday, April 8th is  a Pro-D Day.

CO2 Powered Cars

Mr. Walls' Grade 8 students put their cars to the test today in the CO2 Power Challenge.  The cars, which students made in Wood Shop, were attached to fishing line via i-hooks and powered by CO2.  The students really enjoyed seeing their cars move at incredible speeds!  Great job Mr. Walls.

Chemistry & Soccer

Miss Mullins was demonstrating some lab techniques in Chemistry 12 the other day.  The students were able to replicate her techniques and they had a successful lab.

Later in the day I went up to Lions Park where our girls' soccer team were playing Chatelech.  The strong CSS senior team had a shutout in their victory.  Our team has a few seniors and is a very young team overall.  The girls played with a lot of heart and should be proud of their effort.  Earlier in the day they lost to a very strong Powell River team.
