Rugby & Hydro Seeding
The outdoor fitness park was hydro-seeded today. Hopefully the grass will take well and the area will be useable soon.
As you can see from the PHSS sign we have a Junior Rugby game against Argyle , this Thursday, starting at 11:45 am. The students have worked hard so the game against a more experienced Argyle should be a good test for us. If you have some free time come out and support our team.

Fright Fest a Success
Scary movies and a variety of fun activities were provided as part of the PHSS Fright Fest, hosted by our Leadership class. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and overall it was a huge success.
Thanks to Mr. Mocellin and Miss Mullins for working with our students to make this event such a success!

Brooks Secondary visits PHSS in Girls' Junior Volleyball
Former SD46 Principal, Jay Yule (currently Superintendent of Powell River) brought the Brooks Secondary Girls' Grade 8 team to the Sunshine Coast for a series of games, starting with PHSS yesterday afternoon. The more experienced Brooks team was a strong team, but our girls (grade 7 & 8 students)held their own but lost the match.
Well done ladies. Thanks to Ms. Mullins for coaching the team!

Hockey & Hot Lunch
Our students stay active at lunch, sometimes playing floor hockey. The picture above shows them in action. We will be starting our intramural floor hockey program once volleyball season ends.
As you can see from the second picture we have Hot Lunch on Wednesdays. This reminder comes via a suggestion I got at our last PAC Meeting. Hot lunch is always $4 and any money made goes to the PAC or the Grad class.

Cat Woman and Mr. Lewis
I stopped by Miss Mullins classroom, only to see her dressed up as a cat-- one of the things she agreed to do if our students reached a certain level in their Terry Fox fundraising. Miss Mullins and Mr. Lewis also brought in cookies for their students today. Nice gesture!
Mr. Lewis utilizes technology in his classroom daily. The picture above shows him teaching students how to use Khan Academy, an internet resource that provides curriculum enrichment, by using his classroom inter-write board.

ART at PHSS
I have posted these pictures of some Art that is in our foyer...some excellent work that our students should be proud of.
Superintendent Visits PHSS Today
SD 46 Superintendent, Patrick Bocking, visited PHSS today. We got into various classrooms and he had a chance to meet some of our students and staff. It was great to see the reception that our students gave him. He seemed to be right at home in Mr. Mocellin's French class, singing along in French.
If anyone is interested in connecting with Mr.Bocking you can always go to his blog at http://bockingp.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/wiring/.

Back at it after Thanksgiving
Everyone was back at it after a nice Thanksgiving weekend. I got into the various classes and students seem to be in good spirits and ready to work.
After school the Junior Rugby team had practice. The Leadership class was also in session and students were doing a variety of tasks.
I will be at a Educational Leadership Meeting tomorrow and Mrs. deJong will be covering for me in my absence. If anyone needs to contact me Margaret can pass this information on to me.
Have a great evening and enjoy the nice weather.

Terry Fox Assembly
Mr. Mocellin was dancing with glee after his legs were waxed. He wasn't as excited when he was getting waxed! Mr. Stoddart and Mr. Walls were duct tapped to the wall as part of the Terry Fox fundraiser. The picture above gives you an idea of his situation.
