Outdoor Fitness Area & Junior Rugby

I have posted a few pictures here-- the outdoor fitness area which is progressing slowly (there was more rock than they thought, so a lot of hand digging and footing work is still to be done) and the junior rugby program had their first practice of the year. There was a good turnout and it looks like it should be a good year on the rugby pitch!

Have a good evening and enjoy the great weather.

David Roche: Inspirational Humourist

We had a guest speaker, David Roche, at PHSS today. David has a facial disfigurement and he shared stories about acceptance of diversity and why he is blessed. It would be worthwhile discussing his stories with your families,as we all have scars.

If you are interested in going to his website go to the following link: www.davidroche.com

CHemistry 11: Measurement

Ms. Mullins had the Chem 11 students working on measurement in today's class. As you can see the students were very attentive during their lab.

Staff & Student Art

The beautiful stained glass in the office is the handy work of our Administrative Assistant, Margaret Hartley, while the shading is work done by students in Mr. Shaw's Art class. The talent is quite evident.

It is another banner day of weather. I trust that you will get a chance to enjoy it while it lasts.

Until tomorrow.

Upcoming Events

As you can see via the picture we have a couple of upcoming events that I wanted to share with you. We will be having a family BBQ, which will provide parents/families an opportunity to meet some of our staff informally. After the BBQ we will have our first PAC Meeting of the year.

The year has started off really well and I look forward to meeting with many of you to discuss some of the things that will be happening at PHSS this year.

If you are unable to attend the BBQ and/or the PAC Meeting I would appreciate you providing me with feedback regarding some things that you would like to see at PHSS this year.

Enjoy the beautiful weather.

Pre-Calculus 11 and SPIDER at PHSS

We have to be innovative at PHSS to ensure that our students get the opportunity to take the courses that they want, and need, to pursue their post-secondary goals. One of the ways that we do this is by working with the SPIDER Program, part of the Sunshine Coast Alternative SChool, which allows our students to take distance learning courses while attending PHSS. The students in this photo are taking Pre-Calculus 11, while the rest of the class is taking Foundations Math 11.

To be successful with distance learning courses students need to be motivated and willing to work independently. We are fortunate that Miss Mullins is willing to provide some support for these students. The SPIDER Program also provides teacher support via e-mail, telephone or face-to-face support. The SPIDER support teachers usually visit our students, at PHSS, monthly.

Enjoy the awesome weather and have a great weekend.

Until Monday.
