Law Class Goes to Court

Mr. Marshall's Law 12 class went to the Law Courts in Vancouver today. I am sure that being in a court room brought the reality of what they've been learning to a different level.

Just a reminder that the Ultimate Team will be playing a game at Chatelech SS after school tomorrow. We are hoping for the rain to hold off!

Have a good evening.

Residential School Education

Noele Hanuse spoke to Ms. MacInnes' Social 10 class today, sharing information about her experiences as a student in the Sechelt Residential School. It was an eyeopener for the students and it brought to light some of the issues that former residential school students faced and continue to face.

Thanks for sharing your story Noele. The pictures show Noele with her healing blanket, which represents various aspects of her journey.

Cowboys vs Aliens

As part of Spirit Week at PHSS we had Cowboys vs ALiens today. Some of the aliens went all out, while others were less obvious. Regardless, it was good fun....except having to shovel up after the horses!

Tomorrow we will be having a Green and Yellow Day (Haita and Nootka) along with a Spirit Assembly. It should be another good day. Enjoy your evening and the good weather.

Ultimate Match at PHSS

Our PHSS Sakinaws played a hard fought Ultimate match against Chatelech Secondary at our home field this afternoon. The weather was great, the fans excited and our team thrilled to be playing their first match of teh year. CSS has played several matches and had a significant advantage strategically and technically, while our team played with a lot of heart and determination. The final score was 13-3 for Chatelech, but our team can hold their heads high after an inspired performance. Bravo to the PHSS Team for representing our school so well. I have posted additional pictures on the Principal's Flickr Photostream.

Nurturing the Learning Spirit

I accompanied one of our aboriginal students to a forum called, "Nurturing the Learning Spirit," which was held at the SIB Hall last Thursday. It was an opportunity to share and gather information from aboriginal students from all the schools of SD 46. It was a positive experience for everyone who attended. The information gathered will be passed on to the SD 46 School Board.

SD 46 Donors Tea

We had several PHSS grade 12 students who volunteered at the SD 46 Bursary Donors Tea, held at CSS, this past Thursday. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to speak with some of the donors. Alexa Dornbierer, a PHSS graduate now attending TRU, gave a speech which served as a thank you to the donors. Our students did a great job representing themselves and the school. Bravo!!

Strategic Plan

I took two of our students to Chatelech SS yesterday, so they could participate in a conversation about the SD 46 Strategic Plan. Both Ryleigh and Matteo thought that the exercise was really worthwhile. They had a chance to share their ideas with students form the other high schools on the Sunshine Coast, along with the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, some SD 46 School Trustees as well as some HS administrators.

The feedback that the students provided the Board was excellent and something that our Superintendent, Patrick Bocking, felt was critical in the process of establishing the three year strategic plan. Thanks to our students for participating in this worthwhile activity!
